Term 2, Week 4, 2021 - Devotion

Who are you listening to?
“The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.” John 10: 3-4

Recently my husband and I began leading a bible study for the Year 11 and 12’s of our church. The topic for our first meeting was hearing the voice of God.
As we sat together, I reflected on my journey with the Lord and how Year 12 was a pivotal year for me in establishing disciplines that still affect my faith today. I remember each morning waking early, reading the word, praying, and journaling what I thought the Lord was saying to me. I learnt to hear His voice, to discern His guiding, to quiet my spirit and find strength, courage, and wisdom in Him. Through discussing this with the beautiful young people, it became apparent that noise is such a hindrance to hearing the voice of God and that more so than ever there is so much vying for our attention.

Can I encourage you to find your quiet again? To reflect on the above verses and to determine to listen for the Lord’s voice? Let’s carve out some quiet so the voice that is speaking to us and over us is the most important voice and the one that we are following - Jesus, our Shepherd.
