‘Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it’ - Proverbs 22:6

I believe God has ordained each parent for such a time as this, or more specifically, for such a child as theirs. As Psalm 127:4 states, ‘like arrows in the hands of a warrior’, so is a child placed into the hands of each parent. It is by no mistake nor coincidence, that you are the parent of your children. God has appointed and anointed YOU to love, support, protect and train up your child.

As it ‘takes a village to raise a child’, each person specifically placed into the life of a child is there for a reason. Whether you are a teacher, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or family friend, you have been appointed by the Creator to assist in training that child to be humble, responsible, selfless, patient, loving, grateful and kind. But most of all, to ‘love the Lord with all their heart, mind, soul and strength’.

The quote below was shared on Mother’s Day, and I believe it beautifully illustrates Proverbs 22:6.
Proverbs 22 6
When Proverbs says, ‘train up a child in the way they should go’, I do not believe it is referring to instructing and correcting children to do what they should do. Instead, I believe it is encouraging us to walk in His ways, so the children around us can follow; to turn to God each time we fall, so the children in our world know who to turn to; to seek God in the greatest and hardest times, so each child around us can be encouraged to do so too. Friends, may we fall in love with God, each and every day, revealing to those around us that God truly is a gracious, merciful and loving father. Instead of training children to DO something, may we model how to BE a child of the Most High.
