Junior School - Term 2, Week 4, 2021

Swim School
The swimming program began this week for a number of our Year 4 students. This program currently is provided for the Stage Two (Year 3 and 4) students. Parents of K-2 students will soon receive a survey seeking feedback about interest in possible swim programs to be implemented in the future for the younger students. Please look out for the email from Mr Cox if you would like to express interest in your child participating in a school based swim program.

STEM Presentations
This week the Stage 1 students enjoyed a special STEM presentation. It was great to have a special guest attend and provide a highly engaging presentation for the students.

Parking
Prep parents have been provided with information about various options for picking up their children each afternoon and dropping off in the mornings. These new procedures are being monitored and reviewed over two weeks and I will continue to communicate with Prep families regarding this matter. The Prep carpark is a permit only area. As permits are issued, and the use of this carpark is reviewed, we will better understand the level of need by parents for this space. Permits may be issued to assist other families that are needing closer access following this review. I appreciate the patience of school families with regards to all parking matters.

Drama Club
Junior O’Grady Drama class operates each Tuesday at lunchtime. O’Grady Drama is an international children’s academy operating for more than 40 years & aims to develop children’s confidence, language & social skills in a fun learning environment. Places are available for students from Kindy - Year 4. For further information contact the Drama Teacher, Mrs Louise Gardener by phone 0410 700 272 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

NAPLAN
Year 3 students participated in the NAPLAN process this week and have enjoyed and grown from the experience. It was delightful to hear the Year 2 students provide them with a spontaneous applause as the Year 3 students competed their final assessment. NAPLAN is an important part of the school journey for the students as they learn to engage with the various formal assessments that will occur during their time at school. NAPLAN provides a snapshot of data that is beneficial to the parents in understanding where your child might be at in terms of their learning. The school uses the data to evaluate programs and practices, in combination with a wide range of other sources.

Hainanese Chicken and Rice

What do you like to do in your free time?
Collect stamps, play my musical instruments – oboe, recorder, pipe organ, piano and singing, spend time with my nieces and nephew, read great books, do some gardening, go for walks, spend time with friends.

How long have you been at Pacific Hills?
Fourteen years

What is your role at the school?
Classroom teacher, this year I am blessed to be teaching Year 3 students.

What do you love about being involved in Christian education?
I love the opportunities Christian education allows us to share the Gospel, discuss God’s Word and to pray within the classroom. It is exciting to get involved in discussions about the world and how God wants us to be in the world but not of the world. It is also a blessing to see students making connections between God’s creation, His plans and how they connect to the world we live in. We want students to become disciples of God and citizens in His kingdom. By recognising God’s sovereignty and Jesus’ authority in our lives, we should use the gifts that God has given us for His glory.
