Learning Programs

Learning & Enrichment

At Pacific Hills Christian School our specialised learning and enrichment programs are designed to ensure students who require learning support or extension programs can thrive academically and personally.

Extension & Enrichment Programs

The Augustine Program

Pacific Hills Christian School offers a range of extension and enrichment learning programs under the Augustine Program, designed specifically for gifted and high-potential students. This program fosters a stimulating learning environment that promotes curiosity, problem-solving, and deep thinking across various disciplines.

The Augustine Program is structured around three key components:

Enrichment

Students engage in broader, more complex learning experiences that extend beyond the standard curriculum. These activities foster creativity, research skills, and critical thinking.

Extension

Advanced learning opportunities allow students to explore subjects in greater depth, often working on projects that require higher-order thinking and independent inquiry.

Acceleration

For students who demonstrate exceptional ability in a subject, opportunities for acceleration are available, enabling them to move ahead of their peers in specific areas of study.

The learning that takes place within the Augustine Program also involves participation in external academic competitions, STEM challenges, debating, and other enrichment activities designed to stretch their abilities. The program not only nurtures academic rigor but also encourages students to develop a growth mindset and apply their God-given talents to make a meaningful impact.

Inclusive Education

Learning Support

At Pacific Hills Christian School, we believe that every child is unique and valuable, created in God’s image with the potential to learn and grow. Our Learning Support Program is dedicated to ensuring that students with diverse learning needs receive the help they need to thrive within the mainstream classroom setting.

Early Identification & Intervention

Through close collaboration with classroom teachers and specialist resource staff, students with special needs or learning difficulties are identified early. Tailored support plans are developed to address their individual challenges.

In-Class Support & Adjustments

The school follows an inclusive education model, meaning that students with learning needs are supported within their regular classrooms rather than being separated. Adjustments are made to teaching methods, assessments, and learning materials to accommodate their unique needs.

Small-Group & One-on-One Support

Where necessary, students receive targeted intervention in small-group settings or one-on-one sessions with qualified learning support teachers. This may involve literacy and numeracy support, assistive technology, or skill-building in key areas.

Collaboration with Families

The Learning and Enrichment Team works closely with parents and caregivers to ensure that students receive consistent support both at school and at home. Regular meetings and progress reviews help to tailor learning strategies effectively.

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.

English as an Additional Language or Dialect

At Pacific Hills Christian School we recognise that a number of students come from a language background other than English. The School has a number of programs designed to support these students as they access the curriculum that is delivered in a language that may not be spoken in the home. Our approach to supporting EAL/D needs includes:

Early Identification & Intervention

Through close collaboration with classroom teachers and specialist resource staff, students with EAL/D needs are identified early.

In-Class Support & Adjustments

Teachers are trained in providing support and programs within the classroom that addresses the needs of EAL/D students. In Stage 6, we offer the NESA English and an Additional Language and Dialect subject. Students who qualify, are able to take this course as their mandatory units of English study for the HSC.

Small-Group & One-on-One Support

Where necessary, students receive targeted intervention in small-group settings or one-on-one sessions with qualified learning support teachers.

At Pacific Hills, we are committed to nurturing every student, ensuring they have appropriate access to the curriculum.
